Ten Things I did this Week

Writer's picture: Jessie LandisJessie Landis

Things I did for work this week:

  • spent an hour at Walmart filling up 5 gallon jugs of drinking water for one of the hotels

  • finally made it to past tense conjugations on Spanish Duolingo, because I had a slow day of work

  • cleaned out one of the administrator's offices and redesigned the space for a staff break room

  • interviewed the staff and volunteers to get a sense of what they would want in a break room

Things I did to learn this week:

  • attended a free downtown lecture at University of Arizona, which is part of a series studying sexuality

  • started learning Hindi on Duolingo - A fair amount of families from India travel through Tucson and Casa Alitas, but very few staff/volunteers at Casa Alitas know any Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, or Gujarati (a few of the many languages I have encountered from India). I know how good it feels to be greeted in my own language in a country that is not my own, I want provide that feeling for others.

  • attended the national MVS training via zoom

Things I did for myself this week:

  • bought potting soil so I can transplant some propagated sprouts

  • planted kale, cilantro, basil in a raised bed in our back yard

  • hung out with work friends OUTSIDE of work

Ooooo, turning an old office into a break room sounds really satisfying! And I love your method of transporting the potting soil, necessity spawns creativity!
