Work Updates:
Not much has changed at work, so I only have a few things of note to share. Arrivals are still quite low and no one seems to know why or if they will pick back up soon. This week I worked on designing a cohesive and efficient new signage system for the welcome center. Currently we have mismatched signs hanging up everywhere and mostly in Spanish, which looks overwhelming and is not helpful for many of our guests. The idea was to use as few words as possible and only icons to communicate through these strategically placed signs. Another project I worked on this week was starting to digitize old intakes. From the start of Casa Alitas in 2014 until 2018, intakes were recorded on paper which we still have on file. In the interest of research and understanding immigration trends we have begun to digitize these forms. It is quite a daunting and tedious undertaking, but in short bursts and in the company of coworkers, the work can be enjoyable.

Cade and I hiked up Tumamoc Hill on MLK Day. It was about a mile at a constant steep incline, but the view of Tucson was worth it!
Friday I completed my 23rd lap around the Sun! To celebrate, my housemates, Grace, and I went on a beautiful hike in the Catalina Mountains near Oro Valley. Afterward we went to a vegan restaurant for dinner. Throughout the day I was showered with loving calls, texts, and voice memos from loved ones. Thank you to all who made me feel special and loved on my day. And especially to my housemates for humoring me in my birthday requests.
Saturday morning Andrea, Cade, and I explored more of The Loop (the 55 mile bike loop surrounding cycling the city). Although we commute to work by bike, we have been wanting to work up to some longer bike rides. My loop ended up being 40 miles, my biggest ride ever! It was a beautiful day and the views of the Catalinas were gorgeous.
We were invited by a friend from church to go Contra Dancing Saturday evening. It was an evening full of learning, laughter (mostly at myself), and fantastic live music.
Sunday afternoon we were shown around the University of Arizona Mirror Lab by a church friend. It was wild to hear about the incredibly precise and grand process of producing these huge mirrors for telescopes.

We rounded out the weekend by finally going back to our favorite burrito place after five months!
